From the pre-war period to the high-growth period, the stateof-the-art entertainment including the Shochiku Kagekidan (SKD) and the performance of Hibari Misora gathered and was showing the big crowd every day "The top of Oriental's 5,000people theater"

1937(July 3rd, Showa12)

International Theater opened, opening with Shochiku Shoujyo Kagekidan Hirou Kougyou


1945(March 10th, Showa20)

The part of the building was suffered from the Tokyo air raid. Got rebuilt afterwards.


1947(Showa22)

Restarted the business as the theater.

The Shochiku review by the size of the international theater and its production method making use of the stage structure took roots to the people, and became a new sight of Asakusa that the sightseeing buses in large number visit.

The Jintan Tower was rebuilt and it became one of the symbols of Kokusai-dori street.


1957(Showa32)

Recorded the attendance of 2,650,000 audiences.


1982(April 5th, Showa57)

Closed with 51st Shochiku Kagekidan’s performance ”Tokyo Odori”.


1983(Showa58)

Asakusa International Shopping Street Association” was born.

Opened Asakusa View Hotel at the site of Asakusa International Theater.

Hotel Sanroute Asakusa opened for business.

Since there are two wadaiko shops and one drum shop, it was decided to be “BEAT” (BEAT=Best Entertainment Authentic Town) and nicknamed as “BEAT Street”.

“TsukubaExpress” oepned. Asakusa station on Kokusai-dori street was born.


2009(March, Heisei21)

“Machinami Touitsu street improvement project” was completed by the support of Tokyo city government.


Today

For tourists from abroad that are increasing year by year, and also for enhancing the hospitality services to create the appeal of Asakusa excursion.
